Under the Rug

Boris was sitting in his brown wooden chair by is bookshelf whimpering. He was thinking about what he was going to do for a living. He had gotten fired earlier that day. He was a wimpy scientist who studied aliens. Boris walked into the kitchen, made himself some soup, and walked back to the hallway. The lamp next to him started to flicker on and off. The floor started rumbling and his soup fell onto the floor. The soup started trickling all over the floor and getting on his slippers. There was a large lump in the rug as if something was under it. Boris thought it was his cat Pookey. ''Pookey is that you?'' he called out.''Meow''. Boris lifted his chair, ready to strike. The lamp fell over and it was dark. Then, suddenly, it went away. Boris put the chair down. Crawling in the darkness,

Boris groped for the wire. He found the socket and plugged the lamp in. Light poured into the hallway. Boris was now soaked in his soup. The next day, Boris went scouting for jobs, but nobody hired him. So once again, he found himself whimpering in the hallway. He remembered the thing under the rug.

Two weeks passed and it happened again. The lights flickered on and off, and once again he grabbed his chair. He whacked away at the lump and it kept snarling. He put the chair down and lifted the rug. Something leaped out at him. It was purple and it oozed out green slime. It had sharp pinchers on its two arms and razors sharp teeth. There were spikes running down its spine, and its eyes were green and black. The thing leaped at Boris and landed on his face. Boris yelled so loud his throat started to hurt, ''MONSTER,'' he yelled.

The thing licked Boris' face and now it was clear to Boris it meant no harm. The thing crawled off of Boris' face. Boris went to get his cat's cage and put the thing in it. Boris was very curious about this thing, but for now he had to figure out a way to get back at his boss. Boris smiled and looked at the thing. ''I'll call you Lump, I'll train you to terrify.''

Over the next few weeks Boris taught Lump to search and scare. On Friday night the 23rd, Boris put Lump in his bag and headed to his job. His old job was the biggest building in town. It had a front office with 2 stories and a large wherehouse in the back. Boris headed to his job at a slow pace. ''No rush Boss always stays all night, he's always gettin' kicked out by his wife.

Revenge, Lump,I thank you for coming into my life. We'll get him back for firing me.'' Boris said crazily. Boris no longer looked like himself, his hair was wildly in the air, his glasses were smudged and dirty, his eyes were red, and his teeth were gold. As Boris crossed Crescent Drive he eyed his job. From the outside you could see a light on upstairs. Boris lock-picked the door and let Lump out of his bag. ''Here we are Lump. Go upstairs and terrify him, I'll be down here.'' said Boris.

Suddenly there was shouting from upstairs, the sound of breaking glass echoed down the stairs and the light upstairs flickered on and off. Boris laughed loudly and it echoed down the lonely street. Lump came downstairs and now it was huge. Lump burped and out of its mouth came a wedding ring. ''No, you murdered him! I just told you to scare him. We've got to go, we can't be seen here,' said Boris.

Boris waited as Lump crawled into the underbrush to lighten his bowels. When Lump came out he was small again. Boris stufed Lump into his bag and swept away into the darkness. The next day when people came to work the police were there investigating. Nobody ever heard from Lump or Boris again. But some people say that on dark nights they see a lump under their rug.
