Last HopeSifyr paced around her cell, looking for a way to escape. She stared up at the ceiling. It was stone. The walls and floor were stone. Cold, hard, bitter stone. Sifyr felt like a caged bird. She looked out the tiny window, emerald eyes full of longing. Outside the castle, dungeon people lived their normal lives. Free. She thought. I should be home in the woods. I am only here because I am half elven! I did nothing to deserve this! The currant elf-human war was enough to make Sifyr want to scream. Humans had found her watching the battle unable to do anything. They had insisted that she was some kind of spy for the elves. Blast my ears! She had thought. The next thing she knew, she was lying on the dungeon floor. That had been nearly a week ago, and all of her plans to escape had been discarded, or had failed.Sifyr jumped as the door creaked open. “Who is there?” she asked, trying to make her voice sound sweet. Maybe I can convince a guard to let me out of here. She thought. “Hush” someone outside whispered. Sifyr would have recognized the voice of an elf anywhere. “My name is Kyrelin. Come with me. I have come to take you home.” Her elven friends had sent someone to rescue her. She crept along the corridors behind Kyrelin. When he saw the first guard, he knocked an arrow and raised his bow. Sifyr's eyes widened. “Do not shoot!” She whispered franticly. Kyrelin put away the bow and arrow then picked up a rock. He threw it at the back of the guard's neck with a deadly grace and accuracy that only elves have. Sifyr was almost sure the guard was dead when he hit the ground with a thud. As if reading her mind, Kyrelin calmly stated, “He is not dead. Come on.” I hate how he orders me around! Thought Sifyr. Still there was no point in putting up a fuss. They hurried on, disposing of guards in this manner until they reached the last gate. There were too many guards there to handle with rocks. “Here I may need to use a bow.” Kyrelin mused. “Do it quickly then” snapped Sifyr. She began to throw rocks, and did her best to ignore the sounds of violence. It was not easy, but somehow she managed to keep relatively calm. The escapees quickly won the fight. “You know you have a way with rocks.” Teased Kyrelin as he helped Sifyr open the gate. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- by Talia |
