preparing for Pearson Workshop

We have been preparing for the Pearson Workshop for quite some time
now. There is so much to say about the preparation that I really
don't know where to begin. Today, I finally came up with a story
board that works for the format of the project. The students
needed a lot of time on the computers to collect assets, but I think we
finally have a grip on this. We just used the 4 mac computers I
have in my class, so I put the groups on a rotating schedule.
Thank goodness I started this early, because it is better to have more
time than not enough time. I can't wait for Monday and neither
can the students. I can see already that multi media simply adds
an new and exciting aspect to writing....so many students who are just
not into it, have changed their tune....it's really exciting.
Tech...not yet...

I have high hopes, but things this year have not
gone as planned. I have 10 computers in my classroom, but we are
not ready to turn them on quite yet. November is the goal.
I think every few years, as an elementary school teacher, we get a
class that is, well, let's say challenged. Routines, procedures,
and rules are not sinking in quite as fast in this class.
Technology will enter in around November, or at least that is the
plan. I have used technology for many things though, such as
introducing our new theme "Astronomy" or introducing a story for the
week and building background knowledge (we had a story on the rain
forest and I showed a web site that had pictures of the rain
forest). The kids have also used alpha smart keyboards to type
thier essays and poems so far this year.
How's it Goin' So Far?

Well, I am having a great time. I am practically done with my movie. Adobe Premier is very challenging and I am slowly understanding it. However, I don't really forsee 5th grade students getting it. But, even with that said, I want to go for it and have them try!! I think the sample project that I am using fits well and I will be able to replicate this with my students.

I would like to use Web Logs in my classroom this year - so I need one-on-one time with Patrick to really "get it." Because up to this point, I know what they are but I just don't get how I can fit them into my classroom and intregrate them into the curriculum. I actually attended a workshop on Blogs, but it hasn't clicked for me yet. Maybe if I finish my movie tomorrow, Patrick will have time to help me. I want to get something set up for my classroom in September.
