Hey kids,
What's spiny, cute and totally harmless? A hedgehog.
A
hedgehog is an animal with a spiny back. There are 16 species of
hedgehogs. Hedgehogs are found in parts of Asia, Africa, Europe, and
New Zealand. But they are not native to the Americas or Australia (sad
but
true.)
But, wait, there's more! Hedgehogs have changed over the last 15
million years. The name "hedgehog" came into use around the year 1450.

On Jan. 24th 2007 all of the 4th graders went to Camp Arroyo. It was a 1 hour drive on a bus. We stayed there for three days. It was a fun experience. The staff was really fun to be with. Our adventures were awesome!! We loved our hikes, especially the 3 mile hike to Lake Del Valle. Even so it’s a long hike. We saw cows up close, but we didn’t touch’em, we just walked by them.
The food there was delicious. There was Chicken Alfredo, Pizza, Tacos, Pancakes, Chocolate cookies w/Carmel drizzle with nuts and many more foods. We learned a new word there. The word was Ort. Ort is all the food left on your plate and the drink left in your cup. Every day there was an Ort Report. At first we had 13 qt. of Ort. Then we lowered down to 1.9 qt. of Ort.
The Cabins were very comfy. Every day there was cabin time where you would spend like 20 minutes relaxing in your bed. The beds are bunk beds. There are 6 bunk beds in every cabin. The cabins have different names. The names are tree names. They are Bay Laurel, Blue Oak, Maple, Sycamore, Pine, Buckeye, Cotton Wood, and Madrone.
Camp Arroyo was fun there. We hope that the next 4th Graders have a good time at camp. We had a good time so you should too.

It has almost every thing that is super good my favorite thing to eat there is, well I can't pick because every thing is so good and every 10 minutes when you look outside the window you will see yourself someplace else. Next when you go in the bathroom the soap comes out by it's self but you just have to put your hand under the hole and when you finish washing your hands you get napkins right but this comes out by itself.
After eating dinner or lunch it is DESERT time there is Ice-Cream, Cookies,Cupcakes, and all the stuffs you like for desert. Next in 8:00 they will pass out free toys.

Hello this is Janeisha on What I Looked Up! Today I looked up bulls.
Here is some information about bulls. You know how everyone says how bulls get angry when they see red? That's false. How do they get angry when they're color blind?
Bulls get angry when someone waves something in front of them. That's all for today. So I will be back with more news on What I Looked Up!

Dia de los Reyes
Hello room 15. I'll be teaching you about Dia de los Reyes which is the day of Christmas for Mexicans. On the day of Reyes you eat a kind of bread called rosca which has about three small, doll babies hidden inside. Whoever gets the baby has to have a party at their house and invite their family on February 2, 2007. On the night before Reyes the kids put their shoes by the door to be filled with presents by Magos who is just like Santa Claus. If you were a good kid your shoes will be filled with presents in the morning. If you were a bad kid in the morning you won't have anything but your shoes.

Location and Climate
The Yurok lived northwest on the coast by the shore of the Pacific Ocean and the Klamath River. The Pacific Ocean helps warm the land near the coast in the winter and cools it in the summer. The climate were the Yurok lived was often rainy.
Housing style
The houses were built of redwood planks and logs with wedges. The Yurok houses were held by squared poles tied with grapevines. The walls are low and the doors are round holes, they are 2 feet in diameter and a few inches above ground level. Inside the pit several feet dug out leaving a wide shelf around the room. Each village 7 has several sweathouses smaller than family houses dug inside about 4 feet below ground level. Each sweathouse had 7 sleeping places where men and boys slept.
Ceremonies and Rituals
Most ceremonies began with an old man reciting a long memorized chant. The men displayed their most valued possessions at the dance. A small whistle was played during parts of the deerskin dance. The people displayed special deerskins and obsidian blades to show good luck has come to them. The jumping dance lasted 10 days.
Food
The acorns were the main food. They fished for Salmon. There was plenty of deer to eat. They dug bulbs in the summer. They gathered seeds. They made salt by seaweed. They gathered root. They caught the deer with snares. They used nets and harpoons for fishing. Baskets carried a lot of things the basket were cone shaped and hung across the shoulder from a strap over the 4 head. Babies were carried in baskets. When there was a conflicted the weapons were bows and arrows. The Yurok men fished with spears.
Tools and Weapons
The baskets were made by twinning. Decorations were done with strands of bear grass or fern stems, and red dye from alder bark. Baskets were for gathering, cooking and storing food. The Yurok used deerskin to make there cloths. The young men folded deerskin around there hips. Old men adapted to wearing nothing. Women wore bark skirts. They often decorated their dresses with shells and beads. When the weather was cold, both men and women put a blanket of deerskin over their shoulders. People used moccasins made of deerskin on long walks. They made snowshoes from branches and grapevines to hunt. They wore buckskin leggings for warmth. Shirts were not necessary in their culture and both men and women wore ponchos and deerskin robes in cool or rainy weather.

Puppies are a good way to overcome your fear of dogs. I used to be afraid of dogs so I got a puppy and now I love dogs. I now have a dog and his name is Kaccos.
Do you have fears of dogs??? Well if you do look at the bottom of this letter and look at the photo of a puppy. If you don't then you can look at the photo of the puppy also. Do you like dogs? If so, were you once afraid of dogs and puppies.

If you want your dog to be healthy then you can follow these great
tips.
Your dog needs a walk every day so your dog can build a big, strong,
healthy body. Dogs need plenty of water every day so they won't die.
Dogs are just like humans. They need water to stay alive. They need food
and plenty of care. Don't yell at your dog and never hurt your dog.
When you leave your dog at home by itself always leave it plenty of
water, food and dog toys.

Hi, this is Nader, with the latest and greatest report on Yemen!
Did you know that 20,024,867 people live in Yemen? Wow! That's a lot!
In Yemen, if I plant something it will grow fast. If Iwas still in Yemen I
would plant something. I planted an apple tree and it tasted good. I sold
some apples for $10 each. Yemen has lots of trees.
The good things are
kids know how to drive cars and they let kids drive cars. They teach kids how to drive.
We can go to the store and get stuff on sale all the time. Once I got
something free.
Yemen is 99% muslims
and 1% not musims. Yemen doesn't have that much technology out there.
Some places in Yemen are very poor. Most people live in the street and
a lot live in houses.
That's what I know about Yemen.

Standing out as they do above the vast expanse of ocean water, marine
vessels can be a prime target for a lightning leader seeking the most
attractive path to ground - especially those with masts! Moreover, if
the vessel does not have a metal hull and is not earthed to the water,
the danger is multiplied considerably.
Often the most at risk are small boats, as these are more frequently
constructed of wood or fibreglass, which are poor conductors of
electricity, rather than metal - compared to the human body, which is
an excellent conductor! Sailing
My class, Room 18, is doing science. The science topic is electricity.
We're learning how to work with magnets. The forces between
the magnets are amazing.
We are also learning science vocabulary
too. All of the kids here are just enlarging their vocabulary every
day. Some of the words they're learning are repel, force, steel, iron,
and magnets.
A lot of kids at Sequoia are interested in many science projects. The
kids are learning how to be responsible enough to handle working with
expensive equipment. The science projects we do here at Sequoia are
very fun for kids.
The class would appreciate if some adults came in the class to help with science projects.

Hi my name is Janeisha and I am writing to you about Alliyah. She was a
singer. "Rock the Boat," was a hit single on her last album. Alliyah made her first movie "Romeo Must Die" with DMX (the
rapper) as her brother. She made a vampire movie too: "Queen of the D*****."
Then, such tragedy happened...Alliyah got into a
plane accident. The pilot crashed into the many trees. Every one
misses our angel, Alliyah, My family never met our angel but she was still
part of our family. I love Alliyah even more because she looked like my
mother and their personalities were alike.
Long live the Queen!

In India there are lots of different outfits. There is different kind of decoration for Indian ceremonies. One of the decorations is called a puthu. It is a little red dot you put on your forehead. There is one that is red too but it has a little golden hanging thing on it. Indian sizes are different from American sizes.
There are many different kinds of Indian dresses. One of them is called a soddy. Some of the soddy’s and other kind of Indian dresses have sparkles on it. Other dresses have pants and really long shirts. Some of them are hard to put on. They are supposed to be different than American clothing. Some of the shirts are suppose to be long on you. Sometimes you can easily get confused when you put on Indian dresses. Sometimes there are more than two different parts in the outfit. Not a lot of American outfits are like that.

Hellllllllllllllllllllllloooooo Sequoia. Jackson here with the snake report. Did you know that rattlesnakes are venomous snakes? Pacific Rattlesnakes are found throughtout a variety of places in California.
Many snakes are poisonous snakes like a Yellow bellied sea snake. It's a highly venomous snake belonging to the cobra family. A tiny amount of their neurotoxic venom can cause death.
Another kind of poisonous snake is a Egyptian Cobra. It is extremely dangerous. When it gets threatened, it will attack and attack until it feels an escape is possible.
Snakes have some things in common. Like they don't have legs or arms. Snakes live in many places. They live in rivers, water, forests, grasslands, rocks, caves, holes. Some live under the sand. Snakes also live in Asia, North America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and South America.
Snakes eat few things. They eat rats and some snakes eat other snakes. When baby snakes are born, some baby snakes are born in their mom's body and the other baby snakes are born in eggs. Also baby snakes have to take care of themselves.
There are many different kinds of snakes in the world like Egyptian corbra, Rattlesnake, King Corbra, Yellow bellied sea snake, and Tiger snake.

Hi, it's Snake Guy and I'm here with the straight story about poisonous snakes. First I'll tell you about black cobra. Black cobra is a very poisonous snake, because it's black and it's dangerous.
Second thing, I'll tell you about rattlesnakes. Some rattlesnakes are poisonous, some are unpoisonous. All snakes are cold blooded, meaning that they can control their temperature. It can be hot, or cold. When you see one and you know what it is, don't walk near by them, unless you know what to do.
If they bite you, you should tell your parents, or call a docter. Call 1-800-Snake-Guy to tell me what kind of snakes you saw.

Hello students from Sequoia. My name is Rabbit Girl and I'm going to tell you about Rabbits. That is why I call my self Rabbit Girl. Let's move on.
Rabbits are the cutest pets that you can have in the whole entire land. Rabbits' nails are sharp. That's why the owner has to cut them off before the rabbit nails grow big. Rabbit fur needs to be white or the color they are. If you have a male and a female, if the female doesn't move that much it means that the female is pregnant.

Snakes are very interesting. Some people might think that snakes are disgusting but not to me. I like all kinds of snakes, but one of my favorites is the Adaconda.
Some Andacondas can grow to be 100 feet long. Anacondas are shy. Green anacondas have a very beautiful color. Except they aren't the biggest but they are the heaviest.
There are all diferent kinds of snakes (as you know) and they all have all different kinds of patterens. Some snakes lay eggs but others give birth to live snakes! Snakes lay their eggs in warm places, and some baby snakes are not cared for by their parents.
Snakes use their tongues to smell. There are no snakes that can eat people. But all snakes eat meat. That is all for today folks. Buh Bye.
