Response to Karen
Karen wrote:
I know that cut and paste is positively Neolithic, but I wanted to
reference it and I couldn't remember how to create a link to it. The
"Zone of Proximal Development" is a very important idea to keep in mind
when teaching teachers tech. (See my "excuse me teacher, my brain in
full" response.) Teachers need frequent small doses. The big problem is that this business of training teachers in very
labor intensive and expensive. This is a huge problem in school systems
where there is no paper and Potemkin Vllage computer labs.
I'm very pleased that Karen responded to my "Zone" comment and furthered the thinking on this idea.

Student Voices
Student Voices! Hearing the students as we watched
Fran's and Jennifer's class presentations really moved me, emphasizing
the bottomline: the kids are what it's all about. All the grants,
the meetings, the planning--it's for the kids, to help each student to
find his/her voice.
Our most "reluctant" students may be the ones this
project helps the most. The more accomplished, sophisticated students
may create presentations that are more polished in the end than others.
But to me, the best success will be hearing the voices of those
students whose voices we may not otherwise hear and to share their
pride in their accomplishments.

End of workshop reflection
The "informal learning" concept makes sense to me. It reminds me of Vygotsky's "zone of proximal development" working with a student at a place just above where he/she is. The experienced teacher can gently bring the student to a new level. I feel that as the inexperienced learner in this technology situation I need that guidance. I feel I got that from the Pearson consultants. # - Department: TI Reflection - 9/17/05; 12:55:56 PM - Discuss

Collaboration
Working with this group of instructors and participants has been great. This experience is unusual for me because it's the first time I 've participated in a BAWP activity when I didn't know any of the other BAWP TCs except Carol. It's been a pleasure meeting everyone. My tablemates helped me every step of the way and I really needed help! I couldn't have made it without Sonny's continual guidance on using the PC. The instructors were so knowledgeable and understanding which made learning fun. # - Department: - 8/11/05; 9:46:22 PM - Discuss

Multimedia Composing
As usual in a BAWP professional development workshop, you're getting to ''write'' (with multimedia, in this case) and to think about doing the same writing in your classrooms with your students. What are your thoughts about where such multimedia composing might take you either as a writer or as a teacher?
My project starts with a writing assignment I currently do with my students. The conception of my neighborhood essay as a digital story presents a different view of literacy and the writing process. I have lots to think about. # - Department: - 8/10/05; 3:54:28 PM - Discuss (1 response)

Keep on Trying
It's going better today than yesterday. The organizing and writing I did until LATE last evening helped prepare me for today's work. The big challenge for me has been learning to use a PC in addition to learning the digital storytelling techniques. # - Department: - 8/9/05; 3:30:34 PM - Discuss (2 responses)

What I Hope to Accomplish
I hope to become a more tech savvy writing teacher. As an extra learning experience I'll be learning how to work with a PC instead of my beloved MAC. # - Department: - 8/8/05; 10:40:28 AM - Discuss (2 responses)
