Three Types of Language Arts Lessons
R. Garcia-Gonzalez
1. Strategy Lessons
The focus is on teaching a strategy that the children will later use in their own reading, or writing, or speaking, or listening.
2. Language Focus Lessons
The teacher teaches about the language: grammar, usage, conventions, style, patterns, pronunciation, vocabulary.
3. Content Focus Lessons
In these lessons, the focus is on the students understanding the content in a piece, either by listening, taking notes, or by reading themselves. The teacher usually scaffolds the piece for the struggling readers or for 2nd language learners.
