Non-fiction pre-writing and organizing can be done with a strategy called Pick, List & Choose

Since reading and writing are inseparable, use Strategic Reading to help them see that connection.

Summarization has its own reading and writing lesson sequences, list of informative verbs and summary frames (1) and (2). I've also developed these summary  intervention lessons for struggling readers. Are your students summarizing fiction? Here are the steps. Use them with this organizer.
