2010 Saturday Seminars for Teachers

Due to budget woes, we're temporarily suspending our Saturday Seminar Series. At this point, we don't plan on having any 2012 Saturday workshops. You'll receive complete details about any future workshops if you're on our email listserve for BAWP program information. If you're not on the listserve and you'd like to be added, please send an email to bawp@berkeley.edu. If you're not sure, just send us an email anyway and we'll add you. The system will not allow duplicates, so no harm done.

Introducing BAWP's 2011 Summer Fellows! sticky icon

Each summer the Bay Area Writing Project brings together 15-20 teachers from across grade levels and disciplines as BAWP Summer Fellows to examine successful classroom practices in teaching writing and using writing to help students learn.

BAWP's belief in the professionalism of teachers is reflected in the design of the Summer Institute where Fellows participate in a highly collaborative professional learning community. After completing the Institute all Fellows become BAWP Teacher Consultants (TCs).

Here, we would like to introduce the 15 teachers who completed our 2011 Summer Institute and, as new TCs, join over 750 other Bay Area teachers who have completed the Institute since its establishment in 1974.

This is an opportunity for teachers to get together and work on their own personal writing in a local cafe or restaurant. Please note that you'll need to purchase your own food and beverages.

Summer Workshops for Teachers

Summer Young Writers' Camps

Our summer 2011 Young Writers' Camps concluded July 8. If you would like to receive information about the 2012 camps, please send an email to bawp@berkeley.edu and include you mailing address. Then we'll mail you a brochure next winter.

Designed for students entering grades 4-9 next fall, the camp offers students the time and opportunity to explore their writing interests, discover strengths and learn more about the craft of writing.  The camps provide in-depth writing instruction, structured writing workshop time, flexibility in writing assignments, and daily opportunities to share writing with peers. Through the camp, students grow in their confidence and skill. Each camp concludes with a writing celebration for family and friends. The registration fee is $425 ($450 for the Digital Stroytelling Camp in San Francisco).

*Digital Storytelling (San Francisco only)

Students channel their creative energy into film production–learning basic storyboarding and script writing, and turning their scripts into short, 2-3 minute films. Camp closes with an evening showcase of student films for families and friends.
